Gladys Mwende is a spoken word poet who has also mastered skills in acting and music. She is based in Nairobi, Kenya. Her poetry has evolved over time since she had her first poetry encounter at the age of ten, she staged a poetry piece ‘open our pages’ at provincial level. She started writing at the age of fourteen.
Gladys started her solo performance poetry at eighteen years old. Her first stage was poetry at the park now known as Ndimi zetu. Gladys believes that her poetry is a journey that defines existence, a mirror that constantly reminds us who we are. She is a theater arts student at Kenyatta University.
She has been working on an activism project highlighting topics that are shunned upon by the society known as Anika. It has involved a lot of performing poets. She believes that poetry is the language of the soul and that art in general can free a society from mental slavery.
