Word Sessions | Feb. 2016 Lineup: SHIKKIEY

Faith Shikanga, better known by her stage name, Shikkiey is a spoken word artist, a singer, and the reigning Slam Africa Queen having won the 59th Edition of the competition in December 2015. She is currently working on her ‘In My Shoes’ campaign in which she uses both live performances and recorded audios of themed poetry to create awareness and sensitize people about the struggles of life which cut across differences and aims to teach people to be more tolerant. She states that her poetry skills are self-taught with some guidance from different artists through reviews, and that her music is guided by the Music Planet Centre.

Shikkiey has performed at a number of spoken word events in Nairobi including Fatuma’s Voice, Eve of Poetry, Words and Word, Kwani Open Mic where she was the featured artist just last night, Cake art affair, Poetry Spot, Arteast hub, Koch festival, and the aforementioned Slam Africa competition which she won.

Apart from performing spoken word and singing, Shikkiey is also a student at Nairobi University doing a bachelors of law, currently in her third year, and she also engages in modeling, stage plays, films, and learning some musical instruments.
